I didn't think I'd ever read Skinny Bitch because I pretty much knew what it was about, but I'm really glad that I did.  I started and finished it today.  It touches on a lot of concepts that you can find in The China Study, but it's an easier read.  I know that a lot of people wouldn't be able to make it through The China Study, so I would definitely recommend Skinny Bitch.  It's a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which is awesome, but I can see how the liberal use of the words "shit," "piss," and "bitch" could alienate some people.  Not to mention the whole point of the book is to convince you that a plant-based (yes, vegan) diet is the best for optimal health.  A lot of people, particularly in the U.S. are, unfortunately, not ready for that.  And it doesn't seem like a book that a dude would pick up and read, but dudes can benefit from it just as much as chicks, or bitches, as the authors lovingly refer to their readers, can.

I have to say though, it's really strengthened my resolve.  I've kind of slid off of the wagon a couple of times.  Yesterday, for instance, I had a bit of ice cream cake at work.  Ice cream cake for God's sake!  There will be no more of that.  It's weird how the office culture makes you feel guilty for not eating shit that's bad for you.

Last week, I had a bit of cheese because the folks at Mo's fucked up my order and I didn't want them to just throw out the veggie patty.  Had they accidentally put bacon on my veggie patty, however, I would have sent it back.  Because I was a vegetarian for so long, I don't put dairy in the "bad" category as readily as I put meat.  But I really should, especially when it comes to health.  It's actually worse for you. 

The transition from omnivore to vegetarian was a lot smoother and easier than the transition from vegetarian to vegan.  The first was cold turkey (an odd phrase to describe such a transition) while the latter has been a bit more gradual.

Anyhow, the point of all of this is that I highly recommend reading Skinny Bitch and/or The China Study.  You will be surprised at what you believe to be true because of ad campaigns.  A really great example of this is found in The China Study.  What's the first thing you think of when you think of vitamin C?  If you're anything like me, you thought of oranges.  Why?  Because you've been trained to through ad campaigns.  Mangoes and Kiwis both have more vitamin C than oranges.

I could go on and on, and into much less benign categories than fruit growers, but I don't want to get too crazy here.

As for I Was Told There'd Be Cake, I haven't started it yet, but I'm very excited to.

It's a 120 medium format film camera with a 60 mm plastic lens.  In addition to having a plastic lens, it leaks light.  You don't always know what you're going to get when you shoot with it.  The CFN, which is the model that I ordered, has color gels that you can put over the flash with a click of a wheel for added craziness.  I'm really excited.  To be honest, I really wanted it in green, (it comes in green, red, and a crazy multi-color as well) but I couldn't justify the extra price for less stuff.
