Not sure how it happened, but my little cousin Elizabeth turned 18 today. Her older brother is like, a sophomore in college. Holy crap! They used to both irritate the hell out of me when they were little. And now they're kind of neat...well, people. They moved to Nevada when I was in high school, so I haven't seen them regularly in a good long while, but I get on with all of them, aunt and uncle included, okay. They're all quite conservative, but that's pretty much the case with my entire family on both sides. I'll see them on Saturday at my cousin Steven's. Along with the cousin who sends me the neat "Obama is a Muslim" spam. She's in from New York.
It's like a quasi mini family reunion. I say quasi because even though there'll probably be a good 30 or 40 people at my cousin's, it'll be nowhere near my whole family. And that's just on my mom's side.
My dad and his wife are coming too, which is cool. My dad's always stayed a part of the family, even once he remarried. That's something I really dig about my family.
Tomorrow, we're going to go to Griffith Park for a little barbeque action, assuming we can get a space. Someone from the group is showing up at 8:00 AM-ish to hopefully snag a spot, but seeing as how it's probably the most popular barbeque day of the year, I'm not sure if we'll be able to get one. If not, cest la vie.
Anyhow, I hope everyone here in the states has a happy, fun-filled 4th!
